In providing teachers with tools to help their students master reading comprehension, ReadWorks ensures that its units and lessons align with educational standards. To facilitate the process of finding standards-based content, it has also developed a system by which educators can search for material that aligns with the standards applicable to them.
The process begins on ReadWorks’ website at http://www.readworks.org/alignment. From there, teachers can select their standards from a drop-down menu. They can choose the Common Core State Standards or standards specific to their state, or they can opt to view lessons by educational program. Once teachers have selected their standards, they can further refine results by choosing a grade from kindergarten through eighth.
With the standards and grade level set, teachers can then view a list of content that corresponds to a given standard. For instance, for the Common Core kindergarten standard designated CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.K.1, which relates to students’ ability to form and respond to questions about a text, teachers can choose from read-aloud lessons, lessons in a “Tall Tales” unit, and more.
